There is a funny little dynamic on the train that makes me laugh every time I get on the K train in the morning. Now that Neil lives here, I am lucky enough to get dropped off (actually I'm letting him use my car so it's more than luck) at a train station closer to work in the morning. On days when we don't take Zach to daycare, it basically cuts about 15 minutes off of my 25 minute commute.
Well, there are 3 trains that come by... K, L, and M. Whenever the K or L train comes by and I get on, there is a funny dynamic on the train. Because the train originates in the western part of the city, which has a very high Asian population, all of the people who get on the train first take the seats. Then, as the train makes its way downtown, people from a wider range of ethnic backgrounds then get onto the train. However, all the seats are taken by the Chinese riders. So, the train car has all Chinese people sitting down and all white, black and latins left standing. Kinda like some futuristic society where the chinese get to sit down and everyone else has to stand. I'm sure my friend Ray Shiao would approve. HA!
